Play My Part

Last year, at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, I got to witness the Nashville Symphony perform the original soundtrack of the film La La Land. The movie (dialogue minus the music) was displayed on a large screen while the symphony accompanied it in the background. It was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had.

Paradise Drive

Do you ever catch yourself thinking so deep and obsessing/analyzing so rapidly that you become completely oblivious to your surroundings? For example, you’ve been driving for 30 minutes and the past 30 miles are all a blur? Have you ever intentionally stopped yourself in the middle of your racing thoughts and started to observe your environment? It’s amazing how much beauty we miss everyday. It’s all around us, everywhere, all the time. I wonder how often we give up witnessing God’s awe-inspiring creation because we’re stuck in our heads running circles around to-do’s, worries, concerns, ideas, deadlines… the list goes on and on and on.

Urgent Message

In 2002 I was attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee obtaining a degree in Mass Communication and Journalism. I moved back home after studying audio engineering and production at Indiana University for two years. During my time in Indiana my father moved his recording studio to a space in Downtown Milwaukee. Throughout my entire childhood he had ran his studio out of a soundproof room my uncle helped build in our basement. I want to tell you a true story. A story about excitement, hard work, fulfillment that ended up flipping over on itself and becoming an inconvenient let down. Ladies and gentlemen, "The Dissapointing Futon"

The Same New Me

“To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing it’s best, night and day, to make you everybody else, means to fight the hardest battle, which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting.” E.E. Cummings

That canvas art is hanging on the wall in my studio. I look at it frequently throughout my work day. It refreshes my heart and reminds my soul that this painful and at times confusing quest for authenticity is worth the fight.

Art vs. Brand

I’ve got a friend named Arthur and a friend named Brandon. When we hang out, typically, an argument breaks out. Very rarely can the three of us get together without a heated exchange of words.

May We Never Lose Our Wonder

I woke up a tad earlier than normal this morning to try to get a head start on the day. Honestly, I was feeling overwhelmed. There is this mixture of hope and sadness. My excitement for the future is intertwined with fear and self doubt. I wanted to look forward to today, but it felt more like a trap, and my expectations felt threatened by sabotage (self-sabotage being as great a threat as any other).

As I was sitting in a room with 6 windows and the October sun was gently rising, I started to think about specific things that God created. I don’t know how this happened...
